PRESENTER: Dr. Sara Miller - “Fun with Analysis"
Dr. Sarah Miller will share “Fun with analysis – What do all those accidentals mean?” Every accidental in a piece of music is a clue that leads to understanding how a composer wants a performer to play the piece. Let’s take a look at accidentals in analysis pieces from Level 3 through Level 7 and decipher their true meanings.
Sarah has been teaching composition, theory, and piano at MacPhail Center for Music since 1997, after receiving her Master’s in piano performance and PhD in music composition from Michigan Sate University. Sarah’s students have received numerous awards in composition contests both state-wide and nationally, and Sarah is actively composing for piano and other instrumental ensembles.
