Competition and Recital: March 18, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church

Sons of Norway (Competition) and Award (a.m.)
This competition is open to students in junior high (grades 7-9) and senior high (grades 10-12) who have been studying with a RAKC teacher. Registration fee is $10.
The competition will be open auditions, and all are encouraged to attend.
Each performer will play a work of a composer of Scandinavian descent. Memorization is encouraged. An adjudicator will choose one winner from each division. Students will receive written comments from the adjudicator. Winners will be announced after each division. The two winners will be invited to perform in the afternoon Keyboard Club recital, and must agree to perform at the May meeting of the Sons of Norway to receive the award (exact date TBA). Other deserving competitors may also be asked be selected to play on the Sons of Norway program in May. The award for the Junior level is $50 and the Senior award is $75. In addition to the cash awards, each winner will receive a plaque decorated with Norwegian rosemaling.
Hoffman Senior Awards (Competition) (late a.m. early p.m.)
This competition is open to graduating seniors who have been studying with a RAKC teacher.
Registration fee is $10.
Each student will perform one work or a program of shorter complete works not to exceed 10 minutes. Memorization is encouraged. There are no repertoire guidelines. An adjudicator will choose 1 winner at the end of the competition. All participants will receive written comments from the adjudicator. The winner will receive $200 and is requested to perform in the afternoon recital.
This is an open audition and members and guests are particularly invited to enjoy this event.
Spring Honors Recital (2:00pm)
This is a celebration of all the teachers of the RAKC! It is not adjudicated. It is a recital! Each current teacher of RAKC is invited to choose 2 students to perform on this recital. There are no repertoire guidelines. Each student will perform one work not to exceed 10 minutes. Memorization is encouraged but not required. Teachers may select any student that they wish to honor based on skill, advancement, improvement through the year, dedication, or any other criteria. It is hoped that the recital will demonstrate the diversity of our teachers and students, representing all ages, levels of advancement, and variety of musical styles.
Reception following recital: Culmination of the Celebration
There will be a celebratory reception at Our Savior’s following the Spring Honors Recital. All are invited to attend.
