RAKC Sons of Norway Competition
The 2018 Sons of Norway Competition will be held on Saturday, March 3, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The competition is open to students ages 9 – 12 or in school grades 4-6. Each contestant will play one selection chosen from any historical style period. The selected piece must be an original composition. Memorization is encouraged, but not required.
Awards and prizes provided by the Kristiania Chapter 1-47 of the Sons of Norway:
- Grand Prize for the overall winner – $75 cash award and rosemal plate.
- Scandinavian Composer Prize given for the best performance of a work by a Scandinavian composer – $50 and rosemal plate (must be a different student than the Grand Prize awardee).
- Performance awards – five students will be selected to perform on the May program.
All award winners must commit to performing on the Sons of Norway program. This program will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. All performers and their parents are invited to dinner served at 5:30 p.m. with the musical program and presentation of awards to follow, beginning at around 6:15.
Winners of the Grand Prize and Scandinavian Composer Prize ineligible to compete in the Sons of Norway Competition in succeeding years. Students selected for performance awards are encouraged to compete again if they are still eligible by age or school grade.
